Cryptocurrencies and AI are Increasing the Strain on North America's Power Grids

The North American Electricity Reliability Corporation (NERC) warns that the growth of cryptocurrency mining and AI centers is significantly increasing the load on the power grid. According to the NERC report, electricity demand may grow by 4.6% annually until 2029, which is four times higher than previous forecasts.

Energy consumption varies depending on market conditions, making it difficult to predict and manage networks. Regions such as Texas, where the main hubs of cryptomining and AI are located, are experiencing a special burden.

To address these issues, NERC suggests improving demand forecasting, implementing more efficient energy management systems, and considering the use of renewable energy sources.
